Double the Adventure: My Two Alaskan Cruises in One Month
By sharing, you're not just spreading words - you’re spreading understanding and connection to those who need it most. Plus, I like it when people read my stuff.
There’s something about Alaska that captures the imagination-the vast, untamed wilderness, the stunning views of snow-capped mountains and glaciers, and the incredible wildlife that calls this beautiful state home. When my wife and I decided to take an Alaskan cruise, we had no idea just how much we would fall in love with the experience. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that just two weeks after returning from the first cruise, I went back on the same exact cruise with my best friend from Colorado.
This blog post is about my unforgettable journey on not one, but two Alaskan cruises, how each trip offered its own unique adventure, and why I fell in love with this incredible corner of the world.
The First Cruise: Discovering Alaska with My Wife
When my wife and I first booked our Alaskan cruise, we were excited but didn’t quite know what to expect. We had heard wonderful things about Alaska from friends and family, but until you see it with your own eyes, it’s hard to imagine just how breathtaking it truly is.
We boarded the ship with excitement, ready to explore the wilderness and take in the sights that make Alaska such a sought-after destination. From the moment the ship set sail, we were greeted with jaw-dropping views-towering cliffs, endless forests, and the serene blue of the ocean as we cruised along the coastline. There’s a sense of calm that comes with being surrounded by nature in its most majestic form, and we felt it from day one.
Throughout the cruise, we were able to explore a variety of ports and take part in several excursions that introduced us to Alaska’s wildlife, culture, and rugged beauty. One of the most memorable experiences was whale watching. There’s something magical about seeing these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. As we watched humpback whales breach and dive gracefully into the water, it reminded me of the power and beauty of nature. We also had the opportunity to spot bald eagles, another iconic symbol of Alaska’s wild spirit. Watching these majestic birds soar overhead was a sight I’ll never forget.
But the adventure didn’t stop with wildlife. One of the highlights of the trip was taking a train ride through the wilderness, offering us panoramic views of the rugged mountains and forests that stretch as far as the eye can see. Alaska’s landscape is vast and untamed, and the train ride gave us a unique perspective on the sheer scale of it all. It felt like we were stepping back in time, traveling through an ancient, untouched world.
My wife and I both loved the trip, and as we made our way back home, I found myself longing to return. The cruise had been such an incredible experience that it felt like we had only scratched the surface. Little did I know that two weeks later, I would be packing my bags to head back to Alaska-this time with my best friend Ron from Colorado. My wonderful wife had booked the second trip as a surprise!
The Second Cruise: A New Perspective with My Best Friend
After coming home from the first cruise, I couldn’t stop talking about Alaska. Every conversation seemed to turn to the incredible sights, the wildlife, the excursions, and the sheer beauty of the state. My best friend, who lives in Colorado, heard all about it and, in a moment of spontaneity, we decided to go on the same cruise again. Just two weeks after my first Alaskan adventure, I found myself boarding the same ship, but this time with a whole new perspective.
What made this second cruise so special was that, even though I had already experienced Alaska once, I was able to see it through fresh eyes. My friend and I took different excursions than the first trip for the most part, allowing me to explore parts of Alaska that I hadn’t seen during the first trip, while also revisiting some of my favorite spots.
One of the most thrilling experiences on this second trip was a helicopter ride to a glacier. Words can’t truly describe what it’s like to fly over Alaska’s rugged terrain, with mountains rising up on either side and vast stretches of untouched wilderness below. As we soared above the landscape, it felt like we were the only two people in the world. The helicopter took us to a remote glacier, where we were able to land and step out onto the ice. Standing on a glacier is a surreal experience. The cool, crisp air, the sound of the ice cracking beneath your feet, and the stunning views of the surrounding mountains made it feel like we had been transported to another planet.
Another highlight of the trip was the train ride, which I had also done on the first cruise with my wife. Even though I had already taken this excursion, I loved it just as much the second time. There’s something timeless about sitting on a train as it winds through the Alaskan wilderness, offering unparalleled views of the mountains, forests, and rivers that make this state so unique. It’s a peaceful journey that allows you to really appreciate the beauty and scale of the land.
Of course, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to see more wildlife. Alaska is known for its incredible biodiversity, and this second cruise did not disappoint. We went on an excursion to see bald eagles up close, and once again, I was amazed by their grace and power. We also went whale watching again, and even though I had seen these magnificent creatures just a few weeks prior, it was just as magical the second time around. There’s something about being in the presence of such large, majestic animals that reminds you of how small you are in the grand scheme of things.
Comparing the Two Cruises: What Made Each One Special
You might think that going on the same cruise twice in one month would make the second trip less exciting, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Both cruises were incredibly special in their own ways, and I wouldn’t trade either experience for anything.
On the first cruise, my wife and I were able to enjoy the beauty of Alaska together. We shared the experience of seeing the wildlife, taking the train ride, and marveling at the vastness of the landscape. It was a romantic and peaceful trip, and we came back with memories that we’ll cherish forever.
On the second cruise, I got to experience Alaska through the lens of friendship. Traveling with my best friend allowed me to see new parts of Alaska and take part in different excursions, like the helicopter ride to the glacier, that I hadn’t done before. It was an adventure in every sense of the word, and I loved every minute of it. Plus, it was great to have the opportunity to show my friend what made Alaska so special to me.
The beauty of Alaska is that it never gets old. No matter how many times you visit, there’s always something new to discover, and the awe-inspiring landscapes never fail to take your breath away. Whether you’re traveling with a spouse, a friend, or even by yourself, Alaska offers a sense of wonder that stays with you long after you leave.
Why I’ll Always Remember Alaska
Looking back on those two cruises, I can honestly say that Alaska has left a lasting impression on me. The state’s natural beauty, its wildlife, and the sense of adventure it offers are unlike anything else I’ve experienced. I loved the first cruise with my wife, and I loved the second one with my best friend just as much. Each trip brought something new, and both will always hold a special place in my heart.
If you’ve ever considered taking an Alaskan cruise, I highly recommend it. Whether you’re drawn to the wildlife, the glaciers, the endless forests, or the thrill of adventure, Alaska has something for everyone. And if you love it as much as I did, don’t be surprised if you find yourself booking a second trip soon after the first one ends.
Thank you for reading about my Alaskan adventures. I look forward to the next journey, wherever it may take me.
